Recently we were involved in an exciting new project that brings a spatial lens to informality in Namibia’s fisheries, agriculture, forestry, and food sectors. This diagnostic project explores how geography influences informal economic activities and examines how improved planning, infrastructure, and policy can create new opportunities for growth and inclusion.

Key Focus Areas:

• Identifying where informal activities are concentrated—and how they connect to movement, borders, and migration.

• Understanding what spatial conditions help or hinder these activities.

• Exploring how to improve informal economies through smarter spatial planning and investment.

This innovative approach aims to support more inclusive development by making invisible economies more visible—and more viable.
